Metamorphic Ventures is a New York City based venture capital fund that invests in start-up and early stage businesses exclusively in digital media and transaction processing technology sectors.
Metamorphic Ventures believes that vast new waves of innovation and business opportunity are on their way leveraging the build out of the fixed and mobile broadband network. In fact, many are already here. Metamorphic funds those early stage businesses in the digital media and transaction processing technology sectors. While it may appear that these are two distinct sectors, it is our view that they are in fact in the process of converging and that Metamorphic Ventures is one of a few venture firms with the expertise in both domains. The partners of Metamorphic Ventures seek to be great partners to those entrepreneurs pursuing the development of new and innovative businesses in these sectors.
The partners of Metamorphic are experienced entrepreneurs and business builders and have all gone through the emotional ups and downs of building start -up companies while bringing deep understanding and contacts within our sectors of focus. We assist our entrepreneurs in many aspects of the venture needs from the founding stage onward, building their company to become profitable while realizing excellent growth potential.
Team
Metamorphic Ventures was founded by entrepreneurs and operating executives with backgrounds and experiences in media and financial services companies. These include technology businesses, online and offline, from start up to public entity. We have experienced successes, distressed and turn-around situations, buyouts, acquisitions and divestitures. We have been focused heavily in online applications since 1996, when we made the leap in the publishing world from CD-ROMs to the Web in our entrepreneurial endeavors. Our investment portfolio began in 2002 and was formalized into Metamorphic Ventures in 2006.
Our team works very closely with entrepreneurs - we are here to help them succeed. We are active investors, from board seats to advisory roles, assisting the portfolio company with our venture and operating expertise in identifying opportunities as well as challenges. We have seen many situations and have often taken a hands-on role with the company to resolve both internal and external issues. Many of the companies share space with us and/or other portfolio companies at one of our locations, and much like an "incubator", the teams share knowledge, experiences and opportunities. We also coordinate outsourced administrative services for many of the companies, so the founding teams may focus most of their time on product and sales, building the true equity value.
Metamorphic Ventures's Managing Partners are Lewis Gersh, David Hirsch and Marc Michel.
Prior to founding Metamorphic Ventures, Lewis Gersh was previously CEO of Worldly Information Network (WIN), a digital media and data services company he founded and built to $10 million in revenues before its sale.
David Hirsch was previously the second employee in Google's New York office when Google's revenues were only $3 million and where he served 8 years overseeing monetization and strategic development in advertising revenue as Director of Vertical Markets, Director of Offline Media and Director of Strategic Initiatives. David Hirsch helped launch Adwords, Adsense, and North American Regional & Vertical Sales.
March Michel was previously Group Head of TD Capital, TD Bank's $500 million private equity fund focused on the media and telecom sectors and the lead investor in WIN. Under Marc Michel's leadership, TD Capital generated annualized returns in the upper decile of all media and telecom funds.
Metamorphic Ventures's partners are supported by Tara Eckert, Director of Finance, who provides many of Metamorphic Ventures's portfolio companies with CFO services. Tara Eckert was previously Director of Finance at WIN and has worked with Lewis Gersh for 9 years.
