BTTR Ventures (pronounced Better) stands for “ back to the roots, ” a phrase that encompasses the idea of creating a company that stands for sustainability, progress, and social responsibility. BTTR Ventures, formed by two innovative and passionate business majors from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, aims to turn one of the largest waste streams in America, the tons of coffee ground waste generated daily, into a highly-demanded, nutritious, and valuable food product – specialty mushrooms. 

Partnered with Peet's and WholeFoods, BTTR Ventures collects a large supply of coffee ground waste from local Peet's coffee stores, and uses the grounds as substrate to grow specialty mushrooms. The mushrooms are then sold to WholeFoods locations all across the Bay Area. After mushrooms are harvested, the post-harvest coffee grounds (considered our "waste") are partially donated back to local farms, and sold to local nurseries as nutrient-rich compost. A portion of this profit is donated back to the local community as well. 

BTTR Ventures aims to run a completely waste-free, closed-loop, sustainable process that looks out for the very same local community that helped initially develop its products.
