Viral marketing is a term, catch phrase, tool, etc. But, what is it?

Can you really make content go viral based on a set of marketing directions and/or parameters? Is there some kind of secret to making content go viral? The answer is yes, but it doesn't have anything to do with marketing, per se.

We asked Kristie Wells, President of Social Media Club, to give us her take on the meaning of the overused and misunderstood term, and to tell us what the key ingredient is, if any, that makes something go viral.

I am excited to use this womans products in conjunction with 'pitchengine.'
Nothing like a short debunker to validate your gut feeling. :)

Well said. It seems that marketing is too often considered something that you do, that there is a procedure, a step-by-step recipe, that one follows to create an impression on a target market. All you have to do is know the steps, and execute them, and Voila, you are successful! Right?

I think it is sometimes overlooked that marketing (in whatever form) is simply communicating something of value - hopefully in an interesting way - that successfully communicates your message. It is as much art as science, and the rules of the game are constantly changing. That's also what makes it such an interesting topic!
