Greetz, an online personal greeting card company, has raised €7 million, ($9.1 million) in VC funding. The funding comes from Prime Technology Ventures and ePlanet Ventures, according to peHub.
Currently, Greetz is solely a European based company. Headquartered in the Netherlands, Greetz services span throughout the UK, France, Germany and The Netherlands.
Greetz, was founded in 2004 by Johan van Vulpen and Simen Schimmel. Their concept was a “print on demand” variant of the traditional greeting card. How it works is quite simple. Upload a photo or choose from the Greetz catalog, add a personalized message, enter the recipients address and send. Hallmark Benelux, the Netherlands version of Hallmark, teamed up with Greetz to expand further throughout Europe.
As of August in 2008, Greetz reported that 5 million cards had been sent so far using its services. With this funding round, Greetz plans to use the cash to further expand its services. Currently, Hallmark offers the same, “print on demand” service, here in the U.S.
