First-time entrepreneur
Founder of myTab.co (myTab Inc)
Because I've already changed the world. You're now just catching up :)
rockmelt, foursquare, quora,
Frustrating: Not having tech/coding experience so I was purely relying on my team. On the flip side, that gave me time to work on everything else within the company whilst they focused on their objectives.
Rewarding: I have an incredible, loyal team who are amazingly patient, work at the speed of light and communicate constantly. I hear nightmare stories about start up partners/employees yet with myTab, we've not experienced this.
This is my 1st start up so I'd prefer to be low key in my feedback: #1 mistake I believe most entrepreneurs make (myself included) is that the business will just sell itself the second you press the launch button. In reality, pressing that button just is the start of the work load :)
1> That my incredibly retentive organizational skills are a bonus in a start up. I don't second guess anything or put any tasks on the back burner. Pat on the back to me!
2> If so many other companies can do it, it can't be impossible! It's a good reinforcement that gives me that extra layer of teflon to in striving to achieve great things.
3> I now 'get' why industry experts say I have a classic case of entreprenurial'itus disease. There's a huge rush in the process & achievement of launching a start up. Then a second rush when you've launched and now need to pivot (there, I said it) to accommodate your users.
Two fold:
1> To address the lack of loyalty in online travel since price hype is the focus. We spend hours searching (and disillusioned) to find the lowest price. So with all the travel & travel-related sites out there, no one’s ever focused on the core fundamental problem: price hype. myTab taps into the psychology of how a gift card shifts the focus from price, to experience.
2> To be the 1st travel site that encapsulates the full travel cycle from gift/save to plan to book. We don’t go to one hairdresser for a shampoo, another for a cut, another for a blow dry! So why do we hop between recommendation, planning, booking travel sites? It made no sense to me.
One thing I'll admit:
When I was around 12 years old, I threw my mum/mom's car keys on my friend's house roof because I didn't want to go to piano class. It took 2 fire-engines & 3 ladders to get the keys down. I was sent for a double piano class as punishment the next day. #mortified :(
I've over 18 years of PR, marketing, promotional and event experience for national and global clients: music, technoloy, hospitality, travel/tourism, restaurants/bars. Born in the UK and lived in London, New York, Los Angeles and now San Francisco.
